Claude Monet (November 1840 - December 1926) was a founder of French Impressionist painting, and the most consistent and prolific practitioner of the movement's philosophy of expressing one's perceptions before nature. Monet was well know for his landscape paintings of the French countryside, however during his last twenty years of life moved to Germany and began painting water lilies.
